In just five weeks, I will fly to Brasilia, Brazil and check into the Hotel Fazenda. After a day and night to rest, I’ll be among many people who will board a conference bus for the forty-five minute trip to UNIPAZ, outside of the city, a place devoted to World Peace. This is the site of the Tenth Global Gathering of the 13 Indigenous Grandmothers.
Their’s will not be the sort of conference where everybody sits at conference tables or in rows of chairs in some air-conditioned building, listening to a speaker. No, this will be held with prayers and dances around a council fire and many expressions of the wonderful forms of worship practiced by the indigenous people all over the world. We will hear from their elders…thirteen grandmothers, who have now been meeting and speaking in many countries for at least eight years.
They and their people are concerned about this planet and it’s time that we learned from them and listened to the truths that they have taught all along about the right way to care for our Mother Earth. This conference theme will be primarily concerned with the subject of Water. How very much we all need to be reminded of ways that we can heal our deep and growing water problems. So many people do not have enough to drink, cook, or clean themselves. And so many others waste the safe and plentiful water that we have in abundance.
I am looking forward to being in the presence of these wise women and in sharing their message through the medium of this blog.
