I’m Sooooo On Island Time Now!
October 10, 2012 by admin
Judging by this blogsite, I was frozen in my tracks way back in Australia when my debit card froze awaiting my personal call to turn it back on.
No, I have not been penniless for the past two months….perhaps washed up into Tom Hank’s cave as a castaway. The fact was, that after long agonies in placing my overseas call, I did finally rouse the proper “bank official,” a sweet woman in a Phillipine call center employed by my Florida bank, who had the authority to make a voice print, ascertain that it was me, and turn on the money faucet again. Now, I must go through the same call-the-U.S. agonies to get Verizon to cancel my phone account and stop charging me monthly rates. I’ll do that from Americanized American Samoa…hopefully easily…. but I’m still far into the middle of the Pacific Ocean, so I’m holding my breath.
I have happily cavorted through two Island Nations by now and am, momentarily, leaving in a small plane for my third.
Three marvelous weeks went quickly at the Waya LeiLei EcoResort on Waya LeiLei Island, one of the first in the Yasawa Island chain, off Fiji. That resort was just a short kayak ride over to the actual cave where Tom Hanks and Wilson, the soccer ball starred in the movie, Castaway. What great memories I made there! Lots of new friends, who gave me a rousing 75th birthday party, and a successful mountain climb up the near-but-not-quite vertical 1000 ft. rock overlooking the resort. I have pictures which I should post….but not now, when this computer is about to run out.
I’ve since spent ten days at the Samoan Outrigger Hotel in Apia, Samoa….making lots more friends and memories, and I fly today to Pago Pago, American Samoa; to work on my aforementioned script project about the great sea saga I want to see filmed, and to meet all the new friends awaiting me.
Can’t take computers for granted in this part of the world, so I will write more when I can. Just be assured that I am really having a ball!
