AN ADVANCED STATE OF PREGNANCY
July 28, 2008 by admin
My twins will be born very soon. They are not at all identical, though their names both start with a “B”…..Blog and Book. Blog will appear some weeks before Book comes into the light of day. So, in the spirit of the purpose of this newly-born heybabyboomers.com blog, I’d like to describe my days as an expectant mother – before any of my current dreams have actually come true. By the time you read this, you’ll be looking at the reality of this first dream.
Ironically, this baby took the shortest time to conceive and deliver. In April, 2008. I had decided to publish my book myself and had just hired my copy-editor, Lynn Stratton, whom I located on Craigslist. I knew that it would be up to me to promote my new book since I had chosen to skip the New York publishing route and go with a Print On Demand (POD) publisher, which is, surely, the new wave in that business. I vaguely thought that a website was a necessity, and knew I needed press releases, but I had not considered this blogging option. Didn’t even have a clear picture of what a blog was.
Enter, my dear friend, Fawn Germer, who has been such a mentor on this whole book project. It was because of her that I even began to think of publishing, since she now has four, bestseller books to her credit, and is constantly writing more. I’ve learned what to do, step-by-step, during our long exercise walks along Clearwater Bay. As a much-in-demand corporate motivational speaker, (www.fawngermer.com), she inspires millions of women to realize their full potential, and she has interviewed most of the female powerhouses in this country as the subjects of her books. I am so lucky to have her in my life as a best buddy, friend, and confidant. Anyway, Fawn set up a seminar at her home for six of us to learn how to put together our own blogsite. Luckily for me, I didn’t opt out of attending that seminar, as I might have because it was colliding with the final session of my eight-week, boot camp, weight and strength training with Bodies By Design. I knew that I’d be very tired and sweaty, and it was my graduation day, after all, of a very tough course. Why would I want to rush home, clean up in frenzy, and hurry over for a three-hour learning experience that I wasn’t sure I needed? Why indeed? It was only the central way that my future publicity would be managed! God knows what He’s doing!
I wound up hiring the presenter, Deborah Kunzie, owner of Garlic D’zign Web Design & Hosting, (www.garlicdzign.com) and we have been off and running ever since to create this big blog baby that you are interacting with right now. I saw right away that some things are way too complicated to try to do yourself.
Now, these three women, Fawn, Lynn, and Deb, are my team and we are constantly in touch planning my career. If I ever have a chance to make something of myself, it will be thanks to them! At this age, it’s obviously going to be now or never!
